Constructing A Press Release That Gets Attention

Posted by Avijit 19 December, 2008 (2) Comment

Press releases have always been a great way to get not only visitors to your web properties but also backlinks. The problem is, most people have no idea how to write one. It’s not that difficult at all and I will give you an outline and some of the things you should do and shouldn’t do.

Firstly, ask yourself whether your news is actually newsworthy? If you think it’s not don’t worry, it doesn’t take much to make it look newsworthy. Here is the biggest no-no of a press release. Don’t use it simply to make a sale or sell something.

A press release needs to be toned down. It needs to answer the who, what, where, when and why of whatever it is you’re promoting.

Here are a list of DO NOTs:

  • Don’t make your press release sound like an advertisement. If it does then go back and tone it down and remember the four “Ws.”
  • Never write a press release just to mention an opening or a launch. They are a dime a dozen and these type of press releases will usually get turfed.
  • Always avoid hype and don’t fill it with fluff. It needs to be direct and straight to the point.
  • Avoid exaggerations and over the top claims. The Journalism profession is one of skepticism. I know because I’ve spent my career working in news rooms around the world.
  • Avoid too many exclamation marks. This is definitely a no-no…!!!!! I would not include them at all.

Optimize Ad Placements with YieldBuild

Posted by Avijit 26 November, 2008 (0) Comment

It’s been said time and time again that you need to satisfy two critical goals if you want to have any chance of making money from your website or blog. First, you’ll need to drive enough traffic your way. The more people that visit your website, the more opportunities you have to cash in on their visits. Second, you’ll want to optimize your advertising so that you can maximize your blog revenue. While it may not be particularly helpful for the first part of this equation, YieldBuild has been designed specifically to work on that second aspect.

Optimized Income from Multiple Networks

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. That’s why it’s so important to have a good mix of different advertising models on your website. If all you do is rely on Google AdSense, you’re leaving a lot of money on the table. However, in going through the different ad networks and all the different kinds of ads that they offer, it can take you a very long time and a lot of experimentation to find out exactly which combination generates the most amount of money.

Reading The Top Internet Marketing Blogs

Posted by Avijit 20 November, 2008 (1) Comment

One of the best ways to learn about internet and affiliate marketing is to read about the successes and failures of people who have been in the trenches for awhile. There isn’t anything better than to learn from the experiences of others who have been there and done that. If you want to make $5,000, $10,000 or $100,000 a month with a business on the net, you should be reading the stories of the people who have earned that kind of income.

Fantastic you’re probably thinking, but how do I find all those successful people and their blogs without spending hours searching for them? And when you consider your search efforts will turn up plenty of wannabe affiliate marketers that aren’t really making any money at all, it can be a daunting task to get connected to the best information.

Offline Marketing Techniques For Online Business

Posted by Avijit 17 November, 2008 (3) Comment

offlinemarketing

When it comes to promoting your blog, things like social media, comment marketing or article marketing naturally come to mind. While these are tried and true ways to promote an online business, you may not have considered the fact that off-line marketing can often be as effective, if not more effective, than on-line marketing.

Why off-line marketing is important ?

Why is that? Why does off-line marketing often have a bigger impact on your online business? There are several reasons:

Off-line marketing is portable. If you run a small ad in a weekly flyer, a reader can rip the ad out and take it with him. A banner ad on a website is there only while the reader is on the site the ad is located.

Off-line marketing is personal. Personal marketing techniques – from passing out business cards to putting up a flyer at the library – tend to connect with people on a different level than online marketing techniques. In the offline world, people know there’s a real individual behind that business card. Online, there’s just a computer.

Finding Advertisers for Your Blog

Posted by Avijit 14 November, 2008 (0) Comment

In this video Gary Vaynerchuk answers how to monetize your blog or video blog with a practical illustration.

Of course you need to have at least some traffic to pull in advertisers - but once you do, if the advertisers are not coming to you yet - go to them.

The beauty of this is that as your traffic grows you’re able to charge more to these advertisers (give them traffic and many of them will stick with you). It also shows other advertisers that you’re attracting advertisers (which can stimulate new advertising).

Finding Niche Market Ideas Using Magazines

Posted by Avijit 6 November, 2008 (0) Comment

The following is a guest post by Lara Dutta

Finding a great idea for a niche market is as easy as standing in line at the grocery store.

Next time you are standing around waiting for the cashier to ring you up, take a few minutes to browse through the gold mines along the counter – the magazines.

Want to know what people are buying? Look in the pages before you – and take notes.

BlogRush’s John Reese Still Living Large

Posted by Avijit 4 November, 2008 (0) Comment

John Reese sunk a reported $500,000 to create and develop BlogRush. He believed in it and thought it was going to be a great tool to help bloggers drive traffic to their sites. Unfortunately, things didn’t worked out as John hoped and BlogRush shut down last week.

While $500,000 is lot of money to flush down the drain, don’t feel too bad for John. As the below photos of his house and car shows, he’s still living pretty large. John Reese is a pretty normal guy. He’s also a great example of just how big one can get on the Internet. He tried and failed with BlogRush, but that’s what being an entrepreneur is all about. Better to try and fail then not try at all.

OpenX Launches Hosted Ad Serving

Posted by Avijit 3 November, 2008 (0) Comment

OpenX Hosted beta is the same professional ad management tool used to control the advertising on over 100,000 websites around the world, only hosted on OpenX hardware. The best thing about the service is it’s free as long as you don’t serve more than 25 million ads per month. I suspect OpenX started this hosted service in response to Google Ad Manager, which is also free.

As nice as OpenX Hosted and Google Ad Manager are, I still feel the best ad serving solution for bloggers is OIOpublisher Direct. Unlike OpenX and Ad Manager, OIOpublisher is a complete blog monetization solution. With OIOpublisher direct, advertisers can order, pay for and upload their ads directly to your blog. The only thing you have to do is approve the ad.

If you already have an in-house sale staff, then OpenX is a fantastic ad serving solution. I use OpenX for my entertainment sites and like the interface much more than Google Ad Manager. Having a hosted solution is just one more reason to stick with them.

Other Advertising Networks

Posted by Avijit 30 October, 2008 (0) Comment

When bloggers think of online advertising, the words Google AdSense immediately pops to mind. Google had done an amazing job capturing the internet advertising market with the AdSense product. However, Google is not the only game in town. As a webmaster, it is your duty to seek out other ways to monetize your site. As we all know, putting all your eggs in one basket isn’t the smartest thing to do. Yet I have come across countless blogs with no other means of monetization other than AdSense. Even my own blog was running just Google until a few days ago.

*Disclosure notice – Many of the advertising vendors listed offers affiliate programs, where the affiliate will get a cut of the income earned by the site referred. I have decided NOT to place any affiliates links on this list. Why? Because I am just too lazy to sign up for the affiliate programs. I’ll probably be kicking myself later for not doing this
